These copies of high-scoring essays from a previous Econ 1 class are being provided as guidance for this year's class concerning our expectations with respect to the essay assignment. I am treading a fine line in making the scores available along with the names of the authors, but I am loathe to "publish" these nice essays on the web without complete attribution. One would also assume that these essays had scored 20/20 because they have been selected as models. Because these essays were written four years ago, it is difficult to contact the authors. I must simply hope that they will not object to their generally fine work being shared with a later generation of students. Please treat these as you would treat copyrighted materials.
As you will see, we do not expect a Ph.D. dissertation from an Econ 1 student when he or she attempts an analysis of a difficult economic issue. We mainly expect that you will provide good evidence that you have paid attention to the course material and can apply it in a current-events context.
