John MONKS was born on 15 August 1815 at W. Bradford, Chester, PA. He married Rebecca CLAYTON on 5 February 1852 at W.Bradford, Chester, PA. John MONKS died on 20 September 1863 at Philadelphia at age 48.

     John Edgar MONKS died circa 1918 at Stuebenville, OH. He was born circa 1918 at Stuebenville, OH.

     John Wesley MONKS married Jane W. KIRKWOOD. John Wesley MONKS was buried at Clinton United Presbyterian, Butler Co. PA.² Will Book. Butler Co. File 559. Book WB. Vol. Q. Pg. 155: Farm of 100 acres, to be shared equally by six sons.

Jury Commissioner, 1879.³ He was born on 15 February 1829 at Pennsylvania. He died on 25 May 1904 at age 75.

     Lawrence W. MONKS was state store manager in Pennsylvania. He was Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He married Margaret LIVENGOOD. Lawrence W. MONKS married Esther (?). Lawrence W. MONKS was born in 1915.¹ He died on 1 December 2010 at Fort Myers, FL; Lawrence W. Monks, 95, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., died Tuesday.
Formerly of Butler, he had lived there since 1974, retiring from the state of Pennsylvania after 30 years as a state store manager.
Larry served as president of the Sabal Palm Gardens condominium association and was an usher for many years at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres.
An avid follower of Fort Myers High School since the 1980s, when his son Bill was an assistant coach, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed reading, taking long walks and working in his yard.
He is survived by his son, William J. Monks of Lynn Haven, Fla; a daughter, Sarah Ashton of Rochester, Minn; his grandson, Charlie (Missy); a granddaughter, Beckie; and a great-granddaughter, Preslie.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther, in 1965, and his second wife, Margaret, in 2005.
MONKS - The family of Lawrence W. Monks, who died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

     Educated in local schools, Hampton Academy and Freeport Normal School. Had interests in oil regions throughout Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

" MARTIN MONKS, a prominent citizen of Middlesex Township, Butler County, Penna., where he owns more than 250 acres of valuable farm land, has been an oil producer for many years, and has been c very active in the oil fields of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. He was born on his present farm, February 14, 1856, and is a son of Absalom and Harriet I (Chantler) Monks, and a grandson of Absalom Monks. Sr."¹

Martin MONKS died on 14 July 1941 at Middlesex Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 85.

     Mary Ann MONKS was employed. She was buried at Buster Cemetery near Perry, KS. She was born on 28 March 1814 at Pennsylvania. She married Joseph WILLIAMSON on 25 September 1834 at Butler County, PA. Mary Ann MONKS died on 22 December 1892 at Williamstown, Kansas, at age 78.

     Phebe MONKS was buried at Middlesex Presbyterian Church, Butler County, PA. She was born on 19 October 1823 at Pennsylvania. She died on 13 October 1841 at Middlesex Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 17.

     Rachel MONKS was buried at Kennett Twp. Chester, PA.¹ She was born on 29 August 1812 at W. Bradford, Chester, PA. She died on 20 January 1823 at W. Bradford, Chester, PA, at age 10.

     Rebekah MONKS was born on 14 February 1812 at Pennsylvania. She died on 7 November 1878 at Middlesex Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 66.

     Sarah Ann MONKS was Kept Store. A few pages of her hand written verse book are in the Chester Co. Historical Soc., dated 1821, also giving her birth date on the cover in her own hand writing.
The child was illegitimate. Kennett Monthly Meetings, Sept. 5, 1837 states "Women complain of Sarah Ann Monks: Stephen Webb to prepare a testimony against her." Oct. 3, 1837: "Testimony signed against Sarah Ann Monks."

Suffered paralysis. She had been living with her niece, Lizzie Monks. She was buried at Oakland Friends Burying Ground. She was born on 10 August 1807 at W. Bradford, Chester, PA. As of 1857, Sarah Ann MONKS and Zillah H. MONKS lived at West Chester, Pennsylvania.² Sarah Ann MONKS died on 11 February 1891 at age 83.

     Susanna MONKS was born on 13 April 1812. She died on 14 November 1843 at age 31.

The earliest record for this Thomas Monks is the tax list for Birmingham Township for 1760. He was not listed there in 1758 or 1759. Some of these records were copied from the original tax lists at the historical society. Others were found in the Pennsylvania Archives, Series III. The numbers of the volumes and pages will be given for the latter.

     William H. MONKS was born in 1923 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.¹ He died on 1 January 1945 at Europe (KIA).
