He was born on 5 April 1818. He married Emma Amy McCANDLESS, daughter of Robert David McCANDLESS and Elizabeth TURK, on 22 September 1842 at Middlesex Twp, Butler Co. PA. William Wasson McCALL died on 21 July 1887 at Clinton, Butler County, PA, at age 69.

     1810 Census shows him with five sons and two daughters.
1846 deed: William McCall, John McCall, Jane Stewart, John Sutton and Nancy his wife, of Center Twp. Butler Co. and Wilson McCall of Twp. of Donegal, hiers of Samuel McCall, for $86.70 paid by Samuel McCall and Allen McCall of Center Twp. Allen's descendants still live on the property.

From Gary E. Young: Samuel and Else (or Alice) Davis McCall were in Westmoreland County in 1790's and shortly after 1800 seem to have come up to Connoquenessing township, Butler County, where Samuel died testate in 1843. Samuel gave his age as about 70 in 1840, so was presumably born Circa 1770 or a little later, but probably not much later as his first child was born about 1796.

Samuel McCall, age 70, appeared in the 1840 Census of Pensioners of Butler County, living in Centre township. Samuel McCALL was employed. He was born circa 1770. He married Else Alice Elizabeth DAVIS, daughter of William DAVIS, in 1793. Samuel McCALL died on 11 November 1843 at Butler, Butler County, PA.

He was born in 1807 at Butler County, PA. He married Mary Ann MONKS, daughter of Absalom MONKS and Catherine Ann KENNEDY, on 25 September 1834 at Butler County, PA. Joseph WILLIAMSON died on 28 September 1867 at Williamstown, Kansas.

     Emeline McCANDLESS was born on 24 June 1838. She married James Sterling GLENN, son of William GLENN and Rebekah PORTER, on 27 September 1865. Emeline McCANDLESS died on 26 August 1926 at age 88.

     David McCANDLESS was employed. He was born at Ireland. He died in July 1832 at Muddy Creek Twp, Butler County, PA.

     Euphemia Louise McCALL married James Harvey McCALL, son of William Wasson McCALL and Emma Amy McCANDLESS. Dates from Edith McCall Young. She was the half-sister of her father-in-law William Wasson McCall. So James married his "half-aunt." Euphemia Louise McCALL was born on 7 July 1856. She died on 29 May 1930 at age 73.

     Emma Amy McCANDLESS was buried at Clinton UP, Butler County, PA. She was born circa 1823. She married William Wasson McCALL, son of William John McCALL and Jane WASSON, on 22 September 1842 at Middlesex Twp, Butler Co. PA. Emma Amy McCANDLESS died on 6 January 1891 at Clinton Twp., Butler County, PA.

     Emma McCANDLESS married Samuel Walker GLENN, son of William GLENN and Rebekah PORTER, in 1867. Emma McCANDLESS died on 27 July 1930.

     At age 17, was the first McCandless in this family to come to America. He sent favorable reports back and the others followed.¹ George McCANDLESS was buried at North Cemetery. He was born on 7 February 1771 at Antrim, Ireland.¹ He married Mary FISH in 1794 at Carlisle, PA.² George McCANDLESS died on 3 January 1842 at Center Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 70.

     His barn was the first frame building in Center Township. His farm located one mile south of Unionville on the Butler-Mercer Turnpike (Route 8).¹ James McCANDLESS was born at Antrim, Ireland.¹ He died in 1840 at Center Twp., Butler Co. PA.¹

     Jane C. McCANDLESS was employed. Jane C. McCANDLESS was also known as Jennie. She was born in 1798. She died in 1868.

     John McCANDLESS married Jane CAROTHERS. Before 1796, came from Ireland to Philadelphia, then to Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA then to Plumb (later Plum) Twp. Allegheny Co. PA.¹

Three sons died young.²

John married Mary Ann Smith in Ireland and was quite an aristocrat.²

     Settled on a tract of land near Queen's Junction, in what became Center Twp. Butler Co., in 1796, receiving Donation Land. Part of the land was later known as Rudolph Bortmas Farm.

There is another child in the 1850 census, but its name is illegible. Aged 15. John S. McCANDLESS married Jemima McCANDLESS, daughter of William McCANDLESS and Nancy FISH. John S. McCANDLESS died on 18 March 1859.

     John T. McCANDLESS married Jane THOMPSON. John T. McCANDLESS married Martha A. McCANDLESS. John T. McCANDLESS died on 7 March 1923.

     Mark McCANDLESS was buried at Pleasant Valley, Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA. He was born on 17 May 1807 at Centre Township, Butler County, PA. He married Mary M. RUSSELL, daughter of James RUSSELL and Agnes (Nancy) CUNNINGHAM, in 1829. Mark McCANDLESS died on 22 January 1888 at Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 80.

     Mary McCANDLESS married William TURNER. Mary McCANDLESS was born in 1795 at Ireland. She died in 1833 at Butler, PA.

     Robert David McCANDLESS married Elizabeth TURK, daughter of John TURK. Robert David McCANDLESS was born in 1788 at Ireland.¹ He was buried in 1879 at W. Sunbury Union I Cem. in Clay Twp, West Sunbury, Butler County, PA. He died on 7 June 1879 at Clay Twp, Butler County, PA.

     Robert M. McCANDLESS married Jane McCANDLESS, daughter of John McCANDLESS and Jane CAROTHERS, at Ireland.¹ Another source (in the dataset for Robert McCandless) indicates that the death date for Robert M. McCandless in this dataset is wrong. Both Robert and this Robert M. are given as born 1745, died 27 Apr. 1813. If information given with that data is correct, the will of Robert, that was filed with the death date, would indicate that Robert M. died on another date. The children of the two men, although sharing some of the names seem to be very different. Robert M. McCANDLESS was born in 1745 at Ireland. He died on 27 April 1813.

     1850 Mortality Census for Centre Twp. Butler Co. PA. p. 333 or 335 has Wm. McCandless, aged 73, b. Ireland, married, died Feb., occ. farmer. Cause of death Quinsy. [Acute inflammation of the tonsils and the surrounding tissue, often leading to the formation of an abscess.] Ill for 6 days.
Resided on "The Hermitage" in Butler Co., PA, about 1 1/2 miles north of Unionville on the road from there to Isle (now part of the Moraine Park-Lake Arthur). He owned over 1000 acres altogether.
Distiller by trade (in addition to farming) and known as "Stiller Billy."

     Annis McELVAINE married Joseph GLENN, son of James GLENN and Jennet STERLING. Annis McELVAINE was buried at Concord Presbyterian Church, Hooker, Butler County, PA.¹ She was born in 1793. She died on 27 May 1827 at Butler, Butler County, PA.

     George McFERRON married Maria Heslop, daughter of Samuel Heslop. George McFERRON was born on 1 January 1815 at Down, Ireland.¹ He immigrated on 22 April 1884; After the death of his wife Maria in Ireland.² He was buried in 1901 at Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA.² He died on 12 August 1901 at Allegheny County, PA, at age 86.¹
