Soldier on the War of 1812. Ahijah MEANS was born circa 1793. He died on 15 April 1847 at Savannah, Andrew Co. MO.

     Moved to Howard Co. MO in 1818 and in 1822 to Clay Co., MO. Fishing River Twp.
War of 1812 veteran. Enlisted at Monoe, Overton County, Iowa and served from Jan 28, 1814 to June 14, 1814 as a private in Capitain David Williams Company, Col. Stephen Cpoelan's Third Regiment. He was in an expedition against the Creek Indians under Gen. Andrew Jackson. Marched 330 miles to get there.
He left 80 acres to each of his sons and 40 acres to each of his daughters. Andrew MEANS was born on 23 March 1789 at Randolph, NC. He died on 15 August 1875 at Fishing River, Clay Co., MO, at age 86.¹

     Catherine MEANS was born in 1791 at Randolph, NC. She died on 15 April 1847 at Overton, TN.

Moved to MO in 1822. Adam MEANS was born in 1798 at Randolph, NC. He died on 1 January 1879 at DeKalb Co. MO.

     Bumberland Presbyterian Minister and farmer. Moved from Overton Co., Tenn., to Clay Co. in 1822.

His great grandson, General Lewis Manning Means was Director of Security for the first UN meeting held in San Francisco in 1945. Clemmons Smith MEANS was born on 26 January 1800 at Guilford Co, NC. He died on 27 December 1879 at Nacogdoches Co, TX, at age 79.

     John SLOAN married Elizabeth STEEL. John SLOAN was born in 1774 at Franklin Co. PA. He died on 16 March 1852 at Franklin Co. PA.

     Camelia HARTLEY was born on 28 August 1768. She died on 2 June 1838 at age 69.

     Ulysses HARTLEY was born on 21 October 1770. He died on 5 August 1793 at age 22.

     Joseph HARTLEY was born on 10 February 1773. He died on 28 June 1868 at age 95.

     Mary HARTLEY was born on 21 September 1775. She died in 1867.

     Horatio Gates HARTLEY was born on 6 December 1775. He died between 1 February 1851 and 1854.

     Elisha HARTLEY was born on 28 July 1781. He died on 12 February 1785 at age 3.

     Edward HARTLEY was born on 19 October 1783. He died on 27 February 1862 at age 78.

     Elijah HARTLEY was born on 19 August 1785. He died on 24 December 1864 at age 79.

     Elizabeth HARTLEY was born on 7 July 1789. She died on 25 August 1793 at age 4.

     Amos Garrett HARTLEY was born on 10 March 1792. He died on 28 August 1883 at age 91.

     Moved to Rockingham Co., North Carolina about 1779..¹
A resident of Guilford C. NC at the time fo the Batle of Guilford Court House and told grandchildren about participating in the battle.
Live in Rockingham Co NC on Means Creek between Glenns Chapel and Mayo River, also owning land on Hickory Creek. Received a grant of 135 acres from the State of NC in 1779 and later purchased other land.
Will dated 20 May, 1822 and probated Aug. 1822 named children. (Rockingham Co Will Book A, page 259). Robert MEANS was born circa 1735 at PA. He married Elizabeth ROBERTSON circa 1756 at PA. Robert MEANS died in 1822 at Rockingham Co., NC.¹

     (?) KELLEY died at Ireland.

     Settled in Mifflin Co. PA and in 1795 moved to Lewis Co., KY 3 1/2 miles from Lexington. John MEANS was born on 21 February 1743/44 at Bucks Co. PA. He died on 23 March 1835 at age 91.

     He moved from his father's farm in Buck's Co. PA and in 1773 took up land near Lewiston, PA.
He served in the Revolutionary War and known as Major Means.^1

     John MEANS married Sarah COLLIER.^1,2 John MEANS was born on 9 June 1779. He died on 17 June 1856 at Logan Co. Ohio at age 77.

     Margaret MEANS married John PIPER at Near Concord, KY. Margaret MEANS was born on 6 August 1782. She died on 17 April 1854 at Canton, IL, at age 71.

     Amos S. MEANS was born on 22 March 1787. He married Elizabeth RUMSEY on 30 January 1820. Amos S. MEANS died on 20 October 1829 at Concord, Lewis, KY, at age 42.

     Sarah COLLIER married John MEANS, son of John MEANS.^1,2 Sarah COLLIER was born on 25 October 1785. She died on 28 December 1860 at age 75.

     Elizabeth RUMSEY married Amos S. MEANS, son of John MEANS, on 30 January 1820. Elizabeth RUMSEY died on 10 April 1883.

     John PIPER married Margaret MEANS, daughter of John MEANS, at Near Concord, KY. John PIPER was born on 5 June 1783. He died in 1859 at Canton, OH.

     Mary MEANS was born in 1762 at Pa. She married Chesley BARNES on 10 February 1783 at Guildford Co. NC. Mary MEANS died in 1852 at Rockingham Co, NC.

     James CAMPBELL was born circa 1759. He married Jane MEANS, daughter of Robert MEANS and Elizabeth ROBERTSON, on 27 April 1784. James CAMPBELL died in 1826 at Jefferson Co. TN.

     Fought in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Guilford Court House. Chesley BARNES was born in 1760 at Slate River, Buckingham Co, VA. He married Mary MEANS, daughter of Robert MEANS and Elizabeth ROBERTSON, on 10 February 1783 at Guildford Co. NC. Chesley BARNES died on 8 September 1840 at Mayo Twp, Rockingham Co., NC.

     Elizabeth CAMPBELL was employed. She was born on 31 January 1785. She died in 1825 at Jefferson County, TN.¹
