     This Willian was known as PopPop to me. They lived at 2102 Freemansburg Ave., within walking distance of our house at 427 South 21st Street, in Wilson Boroug h. PopPop didn't like onions, and neither did (do) I! Whenever my mother was c ooking something with onions, I'd call Nanny and say 'what are you having for s upper', knowing for sure it wouldn't have onions. And I was always welcome, as I was told frequenly I'd always be their first grandchild. After Nanny died and Aunt Mil moved to Bethlehem, PopPop would eat one week at Aunt Gerry's and one week at our house. He had to pass our house on his way to Gerry's. He'd stick his head in the door as he passed by. If he could detect an odor, he'd sa y 'You've had onions tonight; I'll see you later." One of his favorite sayings was "See you later, allegator". When he was probably too old to do it (in t he late 1950's, so he must have been in his late 70's, he drove to Florida by himself to see some spring training baseball games. He was quite a sports fan. (He didn't like the Eagles, calling them "The Irishmen", even though his wife was half Irish.) PopPop stayed at the same motel in Florida for a week. On t he morning he was to leave to come home, he awoke to find all his clothes excep t one suit were gone. It had to have been an inside job. We think the housekee per saw his bottle of sleeping pills, and knew he would sleep soundly. Fortuna tely for him, he had his wallet under the pillow.      Nanny liked to remind me I'd always be her first grandchild. Their house was w ithin walking distance from ours, so I went there frequently. She had naturall y curly hair (none of her daughters or grandchildren inherited it!) and sometim es she'd ask me to set her hair. I'd put it up in curlers, but she'd wet the c omb and comb out all the curl I'd put in and go back to her natural wave. Sh e was quite a spirited little lady. She drove a car before most women did that . I remember the Studebaker she said she bought for PopPop (eventually it came to be mine, but I never did like to drive) and I can remember sitting in the b ack seat as she came out the alley behind their house and zoomed across Fremans burg Avenue. I remember specifically she took us to Hess's Department Store in Allentown. If she became angry she'd waggle one foot. He daughters used to tease her about that. They also teased her to have her picture taken before h er hair turned grey. Mary Catherine Smith m. BUSS was born on 22 April 1889. He was a native of Farmersville, this county, a son of the l ate Mr. & Mrs. William buss. Early in his life he learned the slate roofing tr ade and was for many years in the employ of the late Frank and John N. Linden. His wife died 22 years ago. Mr. Buss is survived by one son, William T. Bus s, and three daughters, Mrs. Nine Purdy, wife of R. R. Purty; Mrs. Milford Care y, Jr. and Miss Lillian Buss, all of Easton. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. A melia Bender, of Bethlehem. He attended the Moravian Church and a\was a member of Excelsior Council, No. 26, Junior Order of American Mechanics.
