One of the Older Residents of the City Passes Away Early Tuesday Morning-Funeral Wednesday Afternoon.

Although she had been ill for a long time and in a critical condition, the "news of the death of Mrs. M. J. Hodge at 1:30, Tuesday morning, was shock to the people of the city and community.

Mrs. Hodge had been ill for about a year, and for the past two months had been confined to her home. Her indomitable spirit and wonderful will power kept her up on her feet and about the home when many people would have succumbed and been practically helpless. For only two or three days before her death was she really confined to her bed. And now death has come, and the tired body is at rest.

Mrs. Hodge had lived in Sterling since the early seventies. Her husband, Dr. C. W. Hodge, was the first doctor in Rice county. She has been active in club work and in society ever since coming to Sterling. She was a charter member. of Chapter W, P. E. 0., in which she took great pride and was a valued member. At the time of her death, she was an member of Sobals, in which club she was a very active member for a number of years.

One son, C. B. Hodge, is left to survive a devoted and good mother. The daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. B. Hodge, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Hodge, are the only surviving members of the deceased's Family.

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday afternoon, November 23, at 4:00 o'clock from the home of F. C. Porter. Dr. A. E. Kirk, pastor of the M. E. church, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the family lot in Sterling Community Cemetery.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Porter and Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling; Mrs. Don Lee. Burial in Sterling Community Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Sterling Library.
Alice Genevieve ROY was employed. She was born on 12 January 1884 at Sterling, Rice, KS. She married Charles Beryl HODGE, son of Charles Wesley HODGE MD, on 26 April 1911 at Hutchinson, KS. Alice Genevieve ROY died in March 1979 at Sterling, Rice, KS, at age 95.1 She was buried on 20 March 1979 at Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, Rice Co, Kansas; Lot 221 F.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gast, well known' Wichita business woman, died yesterday evening at her home in the Crescent apartments from a heart attack.
For the past 20 years Mrs. Gast was a member of the staff of the internal revenue department. She came to Wichita 20 years ago from Sterling, Kan., where she was born and reared. Her husband, Dr. Earl Gast of Kansas City, died in 1918.
