     Elizabeth McCANDLESS was born in 1798. She married William P. RUSSELL, son of James RUSSELL and Mary McQUISTON, on 15 July 1828 at Muddy Creek Pres, Clay Twp, Butler County, PA. Elizabeth McCANDLESS died in 1860.

     Jane Mercer was born on 24 August 1850 at PA. She married George McFERRON, son of George McFERRON and Maria Heslop, on 21 August 1873. Jane Mercer died on 3 February 1923 at PA at age 72.

     Rebecca Pain GORDON was employed. She was born on 30 April 1800. She married Alexander RUSSELL, son of James RUSSELL and Mary McQUISTON, on 6 February 1823. Rebecca Pain GORDON died on 19 December 1839 at age 39.

     Elizabeth C. MONKS was born in 1854. She died in 1935 at Oakland Friends Burying Ground.

STERLING - Howard R. Chennell. 68, Sterling, died Tuesday at the Sterling Community Hospital after a short illness. Born Feb. 4, 1899, at Sterling, he married Katherine Roy June 15, 1921, at Hutchinson. He was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company.

Member: Methodist Church, San Jose, Calif, Sterling Masonic Lodge; Isis Shrine, Salina.
Survivors: Widow; son, Howard R. Jr., Shawnee Mission; sister, Mrs. Melvin Haley, Columbus, Ga; brother, Dr. Jack, San Jose, Calif; three grandchildren.

Funeral: 1:30 p,m. Friday, Porter and Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling; Rev. John. Blegert.

Services Friday For Howard Chennell

Howard R. Chennell, a lifelong resident of Sterling, died unexpectedly at the local hospital Tuesday night at the age of 68.
He had undergone surgery ten days previously, but had been released from the hospital Sunday and was believed to be making good recovery.
A descendant of one of the town's earliest families, Howard was born here on February 4,
1899. For a time the family later lived at San Jose, Calif. He was married June 15, 1921
to Katherine Roy of Sterling and the couple had lived here continuously since that time.
He was graduated from San Jose High School and was also a member of the Methodist church there.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine, Salina. He was employed many years as head of the parts department of the Vandever-Welch and later the (Howard) Welch Motor company, a Ford agency here. I
Surviving are his widow; one son, Howard R. Chennell, Jr., 5450 Aberdeen, Fairway, Kansas, copy chief on the Kansas City Star; a sister, Mrs. Melvin Haley, Columbus, Ga; and one brother, Dr. Jack Chennell, San Jose, Calif; three grandchildren, H. R. Chennell III, Grahame Chennell and Elizabeth Chennell.
Friends may call at the Porter Sillin Funeral Home after noon Thursday.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Friday at the Porter-Sillin Funeral Home by the Rev. John Biegert of the Colonial, Church in Prairie Village, Kansas
The family suggests contributions to the Sterling Community hospital.
Burial will be made in the Sterling Community Cemetery.

Margaret MCCLELLAND, born about 1753 in Peters Twp, Cumberland PA., married Thomas WASSON (son of John WASSON, who was killed by Indians in 1756) about 1770 in Peters Twp, Cumberland County, PA. She reportedly hung herself when she heard that her sons had been killed in the Battle of Brandywine.
However the report of her son's death was false. Other data says she died
1830 in PA.

Margaret McCLELLAND was employed. She was born at Peters Twp, Cumberland Co. PA. She married Thomas WASSON, son of John WASSON and Nancy Ann MEANS, at Peters Twp, Cumberland Co., PA. Margaret McCLELLAND died circa 1778.

     Minnie Mehaffy was employed. Minnie Mehaffy was also known as Minnie Mehaffey. She was born on 15 January 1869 at Down, Ireland.

     Rebekah SILL was born on 19 November 1768 at Chester County, PA. She married Martin KENNEDY, son of Hugh KENNEDY and Catherine HUGHES, in 1786 at Butler, Butler County, PA. Rebekah SILL died on 11 January 1825 at Butler County, PA, at age 56.

     Sarah Emily CRAIG married Thomas CHANTLER, son of Thomas CHANTLER. Sarah Emily CRAIG was born on 23 May 1835. She died on 6 December 1909 at age 74.

     Charles Sullivan ALLISON was Farmer. 1900 Census: SD 19,ED 63, pg 225: Cherry Twp. Butler Co. Pa. His wife listed with 11 children of whom 10 still living. Listed as having been married 29 years. Occupation: Farmer

Obit Jan 31, 1925: gives birthday and says he was born on the homestead where he lived all his life. Survivors include 23 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He was Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church. He was born on 31 August 1844 at Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA. He married Mary Jane HOCKENBERRY, daughter of William HOCKENBERRY and Mary GRIFFEN, in 1871. Charles Sullivan ALLISON died on 30 January 1925 at Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA, at age 80. He was buried on 2 February 1925 at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA.

     Eliza Nancy ALLISON was buried at Pleasant Valley, Cherry Twp. Butler Co. PA. Birth date from 1850 census, which lists her age as 8.

According to Nancy Moore, she died young, leaving three small children. She was born on 22 January 1842 at Pennsylvania. She married Newton CAMPBELL, son of James CAMPBELL, on 5 June 1862. Eliza Nancy ALLISON died on 29 October 1872 at age 30.

     Listed in the 1850 census as living with brother Robert P. Allison and his family, aged 37. In 1860, he is listed as the head of the household. George ALLISON was born in 1794. He died in 1883.

     Jane (?) was buried at Muddy Creek Cem, Cherry Twp, Butler County, PA. According to Helen Christy Blackwood, she came to this country with her sons from Ireland and settled in Cherry Twp. but no documentation is offered. Apparently there was not husband with her. She was blind. The farm was known as the Allison homestead between West Sunbury and Moniteau. Howard Allison was the last Allison to own the farm. She was born circa 1769. She died on 28 March 1851.

     Acquired Considerable land holdings, listed in tax records of 1780-1783 in Monaghan Settlement, York Co. Divided land among his children. A tavern keeper and landowner. Morgan: A tavern keeper and land owner. He acquired considerable land holdings, which were in later years largely divided among children. James DILL was born circa 1720 at Ulster, Plantation, Monaghan, Ireland.¹ He died in January 1796.

Butler County Cemetery Inventory, Vol. 2, page 3. She was born on 28 June 1849 at Pennsylvania. She married Campbell Robison GLENN, son of James GLENN and Anne CAMPBELL, on 21 May 1874. Martha Jane ALLISON died on 3 February 1929 at West Sunbury, Butler County, PA, at age 79.

     Nathaniel Kerr ALLISON was (Carr). Civil War Co B, 103rd PA Infantry Regiment. Apparently his brother James Russell was signed to enlist, but after he got in, it was discovered he really was too young. To send him home someone had to take his place and Kerr took his place. He enlisted at the age of 21, Nov 20, 1861. Mustered in Dec. 7, 1861 as a private at Camp Orr, PA. Height: 5' 9" Hair: Black. Complexion: Dark. Eyes: Gray. Occupation: Farmer. He was missing in action and presumed killed at Fair Oaks on May 31, 1862 and has a stone in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Moniteau. Never married. Tombstone states: "Nathaniel K. son of R.P. Allison, who was lost at the Battle of Fair Oaks May 31, 1862, aged 21 yrs. 8 mo. and 10 days." He was buried at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA. He was born on 21 September 1840 at Pennsylvania. He died on 31 May 1862 at Fair Oaks, VA, at age 21.

     Robert P. ALLISON was buried at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Cherry Twp., Butler County, PA. Will, dated April 9, 1851. Names Wife Nancy. States he was "of Cherry Twp. Butler Co."

1850 Census lists him, aged 39, Nancy aged, 32, Nathaniel C. (10), Eliza T. (8), Charles S. (6), James R. (4), Martha (1), and Jane (80). George Allison, aged 37 is on same page.

According to family legend, he met nancy Dill Russell at a wedding while she was too young to marry, announced that this was the girl he was going to marry and "he kept his word." He married Nancy Dill RUSSELL, daughter of James RUSSELL and Agnes (Nancy) CUNNINGHAM. Robert P. ALLISON was born on 25 May 1811 at Pennsylvania. He left a will on 9 April 1851 at Butler, PA; The following will of Robert P. Allison has been transcribed from the copy of the original located in the Butler County Court House, Butler County, Pennsylvania. The original was written in Kuntsler Script as is below. In an effort to make this as close to the original as possible, all spellings within the text are as are found in the will. Beside the signature of Robert P. a seal of sorts was scribbled in the shape of an oval.

     James Russell ALLISON was buried at Pleasant Valley, West Sunbury, Butler County, PA. Civil War Co B, 103rd PA Infantry Regiment. Co. E. Mustered in Dec. 7, 1861, same day as his brother. Discharged fvrom Cap Orr, Kittanning, Penn. Jan 17, 1862. Apparently he was signed to enlist, but after he got in, it was discovered he really was too young.      He is not listed in the 1850 census or 1860 census. Samuel P. ALLISON was born in 1846 at Pennsylvania. He died before 1850.

     Harriet I (?) married John Edward PENTLETON, son of John E. PENTLETON and Sarah McFERRON. Harriet I (?) was born on 19 December 1889.¹ She died on 15 December 1974 at La Puente, Los Angeles, CA, at age 84.¹

     Andrew CAMPBELL was buried at Old Bear Creek Cemetery, Near Petrolia, Butler County, PA. Farmer of Petrolia, PA 1850 Census, Parker Twp. 932-941: 66 $1000 PA. He married Jane LEWIS. Andrew CAMPBELL was born in 1784 at Pennsylvania. He died in 1863.

     Anne CAMPBELL was buried at West Sunbury Union Cemetery, Butler County, PA.² She was employed. Tombstone has dates: 1806-1884. She was born on 24 December 1806 at Butler, Butler County, PA.³ She married James GLENN, son of James GLENN and Jennet STERLING, on 5 June 1832 at West Sunbury, Butler County, PA. Anne CAMPBELL died on 1 June 1883 at West Sunbury, Butler County, PA, at age 76.

     Harper CAMPBELL married Jane GLENN, daughter of James GLENN and Anne CAMPBELL. Harper CAMPBELL was born in 1826. He died in 1898.

     James CAMPBELL was buried at Pleasant Valley, West Sunbury, Butler County, PA. Death from "The Campbells: Highland Scots, Pioneers in America." He was born in 1814. He died on 25 October 1876.

     James CAMPBELL was buried at Bear Creek Cemetery; Section 85, Slab. He was employed. 1797 visited Butler Co. and settled there the following year, James locating in what became Concord Twp. on 150 acres, where he lived until his death.
They were members of the Bear Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a democrat.²
