Getting Ready for:
Sociology 113, "Statistical and Computer Methods in Social
Research"
Prof. David D. McFarland, Fall 1997
- If you haven't already done so, establish your Bruin
OnLine BOLid. The computer program will ask you for: (a) your
9-digit UCLA registration number; (b) your date of birth; (c)
your selected BOLid, either accepting the one suggested by the
program or typing in an alternative; and (d) your selected
password. The password may be changed later, but the BOLid is
permanent, so if you override the default BOLid suggestion, do so
with care; a BOLid that seems cute now may seem immature or
otherwise embarrassing later, when it is on such things as email
to prospective employers. When you are ready with those items,
telnet to the BOL Access
Server, login as "newuser" (no password needed), and follow
the online instructions.
- If you haven't already done so, create your
PC-formatted BOL preferences disk.
- The SSC ClassWeb site for this course is
http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/classes/fall97/socio113/. When
you go there the first time, create a "bookmark" to make it
easier to return there.
- The Professor's web site for this course is
http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/soc/faculty/mcfarland/soc113/. The
two web sites are cross-referenced, but you may want to make a
"bookmark" here too.
- Your BOL account is covered by fees already paid, as
is access to CLICC computers, but printing will cost you extra.
Find out how that works wherever you will want to print.
