Field Studies Group Project SAMPLE

Welcome to our Field Studies Group Project Webpage. This page is an in-progress work of a group of students in the Sociology M167 (Contested Sexualities) Field Studies Class. We are embarking on an experimental project of group learning and community service using web technology. At this site, you will find links to information about our group project, summaries of selected class reading discussions, our class discussions of current topics, our analyses of selected websites, our final class evaluations, and a section describing briefly who are the students who created this webpage.

Our Group Project

Creating this webpage is our group project. This project is a requirement for students taking the "Field Studies" component of Sociology M167, "Contested Sexualities". This project is an experiment using web technology to enhance group learning by creating a space for students to share ideas and collaborate on producing a resource webpage that traces students' collective learning process. This is achieved by having students post on the Resource Webpage, the summaries of their class projects, reports of class discussions on assigned readings, current topics, and analyses of selected websites.

In addition to providing an alternative medium for group learning, this webpage also serves as a resource by providing analyses of other relevant websites and some contemporary gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender issues and readings. For any one new to the studies of gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transgenders, this site serves as an introduction to a critical approach to studying "sexuality." In additions, this page is a document of what the course is about from students' perspectives to be shared with interested, future students.

The following are sections of Reading Discussions; Current Topics; and Analyses of Selected Websites.

Discussions of the Readings

Here are a list of links to our class summaries of reading discussion. We also would like to add a link to a glossary page of queer-related terms to help the reader along the way:

Current Topics

Here are the major topics that our class covers:

Analyses of Selected Websites

Here are some analyses of right-wing organizations' websites:
  1. Analysis of Christian Coalition
  2. Analysis of Promise Keepers
  3. Analysis of the third site.
Here are some analyses of queer organizations' websites:
  1. Analysis of Queer Resources Directory
  2. Analysis of UCLA LGBT Campus Resource Center
  3. Analysis of the third site.

Students' Evaluations of Class

Towards the end of this class, students will be given an assignment to assess the class overall. This is basically for students to say what they have learned from this class and to evaluate what exercises were useful and what needed improvement. There will be links here of individual evaluations. The assessment will be anonymously collected from the course's discussion board.

Who Are the Students Who Created This Webpage?

For students who are not comfortable revealing their real names, they could use an alias. The purpose of this section is to give the reader a brief description of the authors of this webpage.
