Hi all,

Sorry about the hold up today. Apparently there was a network programing problem and hence we could not access Windows Explorer. Given that we were not able to finish our lesson today, I am revising the homework assignment. We will go over the rest of the hand-out next week. If you have time, do try to follow directions for the rest of the hand-out. For example, learn to create tables and to insert pictures.

Homework

1) Use the the guide from the "Editing This Template" hand-out to practice and familiarize yourself with editing a webpage using
Netscape Composer. You should learn to create links, bookmarks and email-to links. Just follow the directions I gave on the hand-out. If you have problems, email me. Note that the links could be to other websites or to your local webpages (HTML files).

2) Use the template that you had saved today and re-edit it to create a new webpage with the file name "assign3.htm" and upload this to your account. You could also use this page to re-edit for assignment 3 since it is shorter. I will browse this file from your account site and evaluate your work.  Again, this is due at NOON on WEDNESDAY, 2/3/99. This webpage should be from 1 to 2 pages long.

Your webpage should consist of the following:
 a) A title heading for the webpage (Assignment 3), the webpage title (Heading 1, using the same title as the title heading).
 b) An intro paragraph telling the reader what they will find in your page. For this webpage, I want you to have the name, URL and brief description of your interested website. Secondly, I want a brief self-description for the authors' profiles that will go at the end of the class resource webpage--our final project. You can use pseudonyms if you are not comfortable with using your real names.
c) A link to your selected website. A brief description of what it is and what you think you would want to examine about it.
d) Use the horizontal bar to separate the website section from the self-description section.
e) Have a subheading for the self-description section and the website section (use Heading 2 for both).
f) Include in the brief self-description paragraph your (pseudo)name, major, year, interest on this queer matters and expectations of this webpage project.
g) Have an updated section with the new time and your name and email-to link (should already have from template exercise).
h) Have at the top and bottom of your page, a Navigation Bar (already have from the template).
i) Change the file name in the Orientation Bar at the top of your page right after the navigation bar (should already have from the template).

HINT: If you do not have access to Netscape Communicator, you can maximize your time by typing in the text on Word. When you
get to school and have access to Netscape Communicator, you could just cut and paste from your Word file to your new Netscape
file. Once you are done editing, make sure you named the file "assign3.htm" and upload it to your account.

NEXT WEEK: Once you have the basics down (knowing the limitations of this project due to time and resources available), we could
begin to talk about how we want the webpage to look like by looking at my proposed sample.htm.
