Internet: Server_A ------ Server B -----Server C
You and Internet: Mac_A ----- School server ----- Other Servers ----- Mac_B
You can think of the internet as a means to transfer information from one computer to another.
Webpage: information stored in a HTML (hypertext markup language) file that is usually stored on a server and can be accessed to be viewed, copied and/or downloaded. Each UCLA student who signed up for a BruinOnline (BOL) account has a limited amount of space on the UCLA server where they could upload HTML files. This means each of you can create your own webpage for friends to view. (For more info on HTML, check NCSA Guide on basic HTML.)
We need programs to view and transfer webpages or HTML files. (e.g., Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, WS-FTP95). In this class, we will use Netscape Navigator to surf the web, Netscape Composer to edit webpages, and WS-FTP95 to upload/transfer and manage web files.
URL is a webpage address. You need to tell people where to find your information. URL consists of 3 parts: scheme, host, path. SCHEME can either be http:// or ftp:// indicating webpage viewing or file transfering, respectively. The HOST is the server's address. The server hosts many computer users and their sets of information. The PATH is the specific place where a user's files are stored. For example, http://www.ben2.ucla.edu/hochiminh/home.htm means that the file "home.htm" can be found at the server ben2.ucla.edu by following the "hochiminh/home" path. (hochimih/home.htm = path)

Copied the URLs of these 6 sites and email them to me by Wednesday noon of next week, 1/20. Include the titles or names of the sites and write a few sentences (< 8 sentences) briefly explaining what the sites are and why you thought it may be of interest to analyze it.
