46. In June 1960 a fire detonated the conventional explosive
part of a BOMARC surface to air missile warhead. The explosion scattered
plutonium over this area. The Air Force could clean it up but that would
cost hundreds of millions of dollars. They chose to pave it and "monitor"
it. The half-life of plutonium is 24,000 years.
