UCLA and UC subscribe to hundreds of online periodical indexes  , sometimes called "article databases" .
These databases are part of the "invisible web," because you cannot search their contents through
Web search tools like Google and Yahoo.
By the end of this section you should be able to…
- write an effective search statement .
- search an online periodical index, using a keyword search.
- identify "subject headings" for a useful article.
- improve a search by using the official subject words for that periodical index.
- improve a search by using a variety of limits.
- locate periodical articles online or in the library.
