The Rock Art Archive is the repository of several
major private collections of rock art data. Each is unique and
all are of great significance for specific sites and for the field
in general. These materials, and others, are a precious legacy
from pioneers in the field of rock art studies. Archive
staff are applying the latest methods in computer technology
to preserve the collections for future research.
In addition to its extensive collections, the
Archive holds site reports, site records and research reports,
with established
standards for three basis levels of site documentation. These
levels, in turn, facilitate corresponding levels of research
and access.

Manuscript Bibliography
The UCLA Rock Art Archive Manuscript Bibliography is a collection of files donated by various individuals since the Archive's founding. It consists of 3,856 files ordered by title, author, donor, and date written or acquired. A checklist of inclusions has fields for number of pages; presence or absence of an abstract, bibliography, correspondence, drawings, photographs, slides, tables and site reports. It is searchable by keyword, country, continent, and state. The publication status of the manuscript is updateable, and comments on content are recorded. |

Rock Art Library
The UCLA Rock Art Archive Library is limited by the amount of space we have available to shelve books. Nonetheless, we have acquired 460 volumes dealing specifically with rock art in California, the Far West, and the Pacific Islands, and with some other areas of the world as well. The volumes are ordered by title, author, publisher, and date of publication; some are rare or signed copies, and many have been donated by the researches closely associated with our collections. The library is non-circulating, and some of the volumes in the collection are fragile or not available for research use except by special arrangement. |
