Rock art enthusiasts attend symposium hosted by the Rock Art Archive

THE MURALS OF BAJA CALIFORNIA, legacy of Mexico's ancient peoples were brought vividly to life on April 12th for the more than 150 people who attended "Rock Art of Baja California: The Legacy of the Great Murals," a public program sponsored by The Institute of Archaeology.
Opening the symposium, Richard Leventhal, Director of The Institute of Archaeology, commented that growing public interest in rock art was evidenced by the sizeable audience it drew. Miguel Angel Corzo, Director of the J. Paul Getty Conservation Institute, added his welcome; and Jo Anne Van Tilburg, Director of The UCLA Rock Art Archive, cited the established rock art legacy exemplified by the Archive's twenty-year history. Enrique Hambleton, President, Fundacion Amigos de Sudcalifornia, A.C., opened up "The World of the Sierras: Central Baja California Environment" with an overview of the area.
