In Memoriam: Jack Schram by Richard M. Leventhal, Director and Julia L. J. Sanchez, Assistant Director
Jack Schram, who had been involved with the Cotsen Institute and the Friends of Archaeology for a long time, passed away recently. Jack was President-Elect of the Friends of Archaeology for 2000-2001 and had held other offices in the past. Jacks enthusiasm benefited many of the labs in the Cotsen Institute. He worked with Virginia Popper in the Paleoethnobotany Lab as a volunteer for several years. More recently, Jack became the volunteer administrator for the Digital Archaeology Lab, putting all of their accounts in order. In previous years, he had also been involved with helping out in the Lithics and Obsidian Hydration Laboratory.
Jack participated in field projects, including the Xunantunich Archaeological Project. He organized the camp and assisted in creating a plaster replica of a carved frieze so that the original carving is protected while thousands of visitors each year can see what the carving looked like.
For the last few years, Jack was involved in fundraising and construction of the
Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Churcha passion that he saw to its fruition recently. He was at the church when he passed away.
We mourn the loss of a great friend.
