The morning of our last day in Gettysburg. As we wait for our tour to start, I snap a quick shot in the visitor's center of Melissa with her hero, Gen. James Longstreet.
Our morning lecture was by Glenn LaFantasie, author of articles on the fight for Little Round Top and an upcoming book on William Oates. We started out in the National Cemetery talking about the what the Union fought for.
We then moved to Little Round Top and the position of the 20th Maine to learn about the lives of the two men who faced each other on July 2, 1863.

Mr. LaFantasie debunked some of the myths of the legend of Little Round Top, and cast both men as human, fighting for what they thought was important. Ironically, Oates actually championed the cause of black suffage after the war.

After lunch, some of us went to the Visitors Center to catch our afternoon walk. Unfortunately the "trusty" Gettysburg College vans did not show!

Our afternoon tour was led by Licensed Battlefield Guide, Wayne Motts. Wayne is a specialist on Pickett's Charge.
We started behind the Virginia Memorial, on Seminary Ridge where Pickett's and Pettigrew's men awaited the assault.
