The first in a series of conferences on Historic Armenian Cities and Provinces was hosted by UCLA on the weekend of May 17-18, 1997. The inaugural conference was on Armenian Van/Vaspurakan, from antiquity to the twentieth century. The conference was organized by Professor Richard Hovannisian, Armenian Educational Foundation Chair in Modern Armenian History, in cooperation with the Grigor Narekatsi Chair.
