BatGat
It’s unsurprising to those of you who know me that the first of these entries should be the new Battlestar Galactica. Not just for its writing or its special effects, both of which are arguably the best in any science fiction series, but also because the show’s producers seem to understand and embrace new and interesting communication tech like few other shows. Beyond the typical glitzy website filled with free downloads (like the above image) and typical show PR, BatGat has done several things to surprise and impress me. These include providing a free streaming video presentation of one of their better first season episodes (”33”) and deleted scenes; an interesting (if seldom-updated) blog by producer Ron Moore and videoblog by producer David Eick. In addition, Moore provides an insightful producer’s-commentary podcast for each new episode that airs, and the show was one of the first (and is still one of the most successful) shows to be made available for download via the iTunes Music Store. Did I mention it’s also a great show?
