This assignment (for jazz musicians and everyone else) is due ,typed and double spaced, in class AT THE BEGINNING of our last meeting (Week 10), (DO NOT SEND IT VIA E-MAIL). LATE BOOK REVIEW WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Make sure to include YOUR NAME and MAJOR at the top of each typed page.

The Book review consists of a written piece on one of the books listed in the course syllabus. You need to read the book having in mind a particular goal which is to discusses the book from the point of view of the culture of jazz aesthetics as experienced and discussed in our course. You to describe what the book adds to your understanding of jazz as a cultural tradition and to the aesthetics of jazz. You also need to match what the author says in the book with what you have learned in this course. In some cases, you will find some similarities in the opinions expressed or in the information about jazz. In other cases, you might find some new observations and interpretations. Choose the points that strike you as the most interesting and most revealing. Do not write just a summary of what you read. You need to compare and assess. This assignment is also a way of assessing your socialization to jazz, how much you have learned in the last 9 weeks.
