Capps;             Thank you I- I-  I want to say first of all, can you hear in the back okay, is it alright?

Capps;             Thank you. uhm I- first of all I want to say how pleased I am to be here. ...  uhm- I- I’m not gonna dwell on this fact but I’ve only been walking for about a week.  I was- ... my wife Lois and I were in a very serious car accident and ... uh- and we’ve been recuperating.  ... and so we- we have be- this- this and what we did last night was really the first time that we’ve been on the campaign (trail) directly  uhm for the past several weeks.  I also want to thank all the people who have uh- ... who have been- so generous in their support of us.  The cards and letters and phone calls we’ve received.  But we’re ce- we’re certainly back now and we’re very happy to be here.  ... uhm, I- ... the- the time is limited this morning so I’m- I’m not gonna spend very much time on biography.  ... but- uh- we have lived in this district for thirty two years.  uh-we’ve raised ... our children here.  I’ve- I’ve been a member of the faculty at University of California at Santa Barbara ... uh- during that period of time.  uh- I was also the director for the center for the study of democratic institutions. ... There’s been some question about whether I’ve ever ... had to deal with the payroll.  I was director of that.  I’ve been department chair, ... uh I also know how to pay our bills  ((smiles)) um- that has been- that has been our experience.  And  we think we know the people of the twenty-second district ... very very well because they’ve been our neighbors and our friends and- and our family.  But I want to get right into the issues here.  uh, this is the
