Assignment 2
  1. Review the readings for this week, the hand-out and your notes and using the two poems by Pablo Neruda handed-out in class, discuss two of the following issues: 1. Language as a system of choices; 2. the affective and propositional functions of language (as defined by Cassirer),; and 3. the possible meaning(s) of the view that "language speaks" and poets may be the ones to allow us to hear what "language says"(max. 900)
