Anthropology Discourse Lab |
|
Discourse
lab provides participants the opportunity to present original
work-in-progress, such as conference papers, thesis or dissertation work, and
get commentary. The range of topics, issues, methods, and theories varies,
with a preference given to analyses based on spontaneously occurring interaction
across everyday settings (e.g. homes, workplaces, classrooms, playgrounds,
political campaigns, artistic performances, medical facilities, support
organizations). Each speaker is usually given 30 minutes for presenting and
25 minutes for discussion. Regular participants include faculty, students,
and visiting scholars in Anthropology, CLIC visiting scholars, and students
and faculty from other departments and units at UCLA. Discourse
lab is held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in 332 Haines Hall and offers graduate
credit for enrolled student participants (Anthropology 297: Discourse Lab) on
an S/U basis (2 credits for participating and 4 credits for participating and
presenting). |
