AAS 119: Asian American and Pacific Islander Labor Issues

ASSIGNMENTS

Creating Simple and Fun Educational Activities
(due by Feb. 17)

This assignment is due by our class session of Feb. 17.  This assignment involves both a short written report and an oral presentation.  This assignment may be done individually or in small groups of no more than five students.

For both the programs being organized by the Film and Reception committees, we should try to have a few simple and fun educational activities at the events.  To help these committees come up with ideas, students for this homework assignment will create some simple and fun educational activities.  The educational activities will involve arts and crafts and can be of two types:  1) a simple arts and crafts activity that everyone attending the events can do and take home with them, or 2) a simple arts and crafts activity that everyone at the events can do that will later be given to Koreatown restaurant workers.

1)  This assignment can be done individually or in teams of up to five students.

2)  Create a simple and fun arts and crafts educational activity focusing on one of the five main themes for our class projects:

  1. Importance of health-safety rights for Koreatown restaurant workers
  2. Power of immigrant workers to change our communities
  3. Power of students working in solidarity with immigrant workers to change our communities
  4. Importance of interethnic alliances to gain rights and justice for all
  5. Importance of protecting rights of immigrants in this period

3)  For supplies for your arts and crafts activity, you or your team are limited to only items from the 99 Cents Store (or equivalent stores); in other words, the activity should not only be simple and fun but also inexpensive.

4)  Type up a one-page description of your activity and turn it in on Feb. 17.

5)  Be prepared to present your activity to our class on Feb. 17.
