Homework Assignment 2 This assignment is due by January 17. Based on our class discussion of the many dimensions surrounding questions of peace and justice in this period, select one question to answer, research it, and write at least two to three pages to serve as the basis for a class presentation. This assignment can be done individually or by small groups of two to three students. Some examples of the many dimensions surrounding questions of peace and justice in this period: attack on immigrant rights, parallels in this period to the World War II internment of Japanese Americans, relationship of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East to U.S. economic interests such as oil supplies, media coverage (or lack of coverage) of issues, relationship of the current war build-up to deepening economic crisis and cutbacks in health services and education, U.S. relations with Korea and Asia and the impact on Asian Americans, racial justice in this period, perceptions of others across the globe of America and Americans at this time, human rights in Iraq and ways that people in the U.S. can join in solidarity with the Iraqi people, the erosion of civil rights under the Patriot Act and Homeland Security Act, and the roots of the U.S. war against terrorism and the ways that terrorism is defined in this period.
