Transitioning to a new country can be difficult, however, four exceptional women, have proven that it is possible to form a new identity and carve out a space for themselves in America. Though they came from the Philippines, Vietnam, and Iran they shared the common obstacles of trying to maintain their native cultures and adapt to their newfound culture. As a woman, their culture imposes on them the responsibility of preserving culture within the family. Once these women migrated to America, they made it a priority to keep cultural traditions while forming an identity that empowered them in their new societies. A rose symbolizes women's strength and beauty. Similar to a rose that has thorns as a survival mechanism from predators, these thorns also represent adaptations that migrant women need in order to survive in America. No matter how harsh the conditions are for a rose, it retains its beauty and its roots, just like these four women. They have overcome many struggles, and yet instead of losing their cultures, they have gained a more enriched and integrated one. |
