| By Grace Borrero Campus Resources: ASUCLA Student Media ASUCLA Student Media serves as a plethora of writing opportunities. It is made up of the "Daily Bruin" (daily newspaper), Bruin Life (yearbook), seven newsmagazines, and KLA (radio station). The "Daily Bruin" offers internships every quarter. There are five categories: advertising, copy editing & design, electronic media, photojournalism, and writing & reporting. The interns attend numerous workshops before the actual internship begins. During these classes, the students receive most of their training. There are seven newsmagazines, serving various communities within UCLA. "Al-Talib" is the Muslim newsmagazine, "Ha'am" the Jewish, "La Gente" the Chicano/Latino, "Pacific Ties" the Asian American and Pacific Islander, "Nommo" the African American, "Fem" for women, and "10%" the gay and lesbian community. The newsmagazines are based on the specific community they serve. Issues are published about twice every quarter. ASUCLA has various outlets for student writers. Internships are available in numerous fields and a database houses job listings for potential journalists. (Grace Borrero is a junior majoring in English.) |
