THE PUBLIC SOCIOLOGISTS working group helps members balance the demands of a career in Sociology with diverse political commitments. We want our scholarship to contribute to the debates and struggles of the society we live in. Through panel discussions, speakers, and student meetings, we work towards three goals. First, we create forums to discuss and highlight this approach to social science. Second, we intensely critique each other's work to promote the highest level of intellectual rigor. Finally, we push each other to stay accountable to our goal of scholarship with transformative potential. Our group is a resource for each of us to draw on as we navigate intellectual and political praxis while advancing in the department and in the discipline.
The student coordinators of the group are: Joshua Bloom, Marisa Gerstein-Pineau, Nazgol Ghandnoosh, John O'Brien, and Chinyere Osuji.
