Lecture/research, three hours. Examination of systemic (mis)representations of Latinos by a print media source (Los Angeles Times) by means of critical discourse analysis and metaphor theory. Investigation of empirical basis for theories of racism in language in this context. Student projects range from immigration to education and crime to culture.
