Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Enrollment priority to Chicana and Chicano studies majors. Introduction to central concepts and historical experiences which define Chicano culture, from exploring indigenous roots to examining current trends. Emphasis on diversity of the Chicano experience, gender as a central cultural variable, and particular socioeconomic conditions which have shaped cultural response.
